Sophia Smith &Oliver Simon Teen Visionary Award
Sophia Smith and Oliver Simon have been friends since they were 2 years old, they have both engaged in various community service activities over the years.
After participating as CTEEN volunteers at the Chabad of SE Morris County's Thanksgiving Dinner’s for the Homebound Project, Oliver and Sophia brainstormed and created Extra Helpings Delivered, which helps alleviate food insecurity issues in low- income housing complexes by providing "Thanksgiving-style meals" on a monthly basis. With Chabad’s help, Extra Helpings Delivered was able to pair delicious leftovers with low-income seniors, many whom are in need of a little extra help towards the ends of the month. In addition, the reduction in food waste as leftovers find their way to appreciative diners is something they are quite proud of!
Oliver is a junior at Morristown-Beard School. He enjoys baseball and summer camp, and is an avid Jets and Yankees fan. Extra Helpings Delivered is one of many ways that Oliver has been involved in community service over the years.
Sophia is a senior at the Pingry School, and will be attending Washington & Lee University in the fall of this year. She enjoys travel and baking, and participating in model UN. Community service has been a very big part of Sophia’s life over the years, culminating in the founding of Extra Helpings Delivered!
